So I ended up going to sleep sometime early in the morning on Sunday, and I slept until late in the day on Monday. Wow. I spent two days sleeping. Not a full forty-eight hours mind you, more like thirty-six, but still…

I also have not been so impressive in the Lich King expansion for World of Warcraft. I am still about four bubbles from level 71… sad. I have been waiting to play with Xander, and he has had one technologic nightmare after another. Yet even he is now slightly father along than I am. I fail. My plan was to catch up tonight… I don’t know… Ignore this empty post.

With disgust towards Best Buy, I took a cab one mile up sixth avenue and jogged over to fifth to see what I would have to do to get this damn game and holy shit shits there were there a lot of people. Too many people for that store, that corner, that game, or that hour. (It wasn’t Apple iPhone 3G launch-line big, but it was four and five people wide packed halfway down east 44th street… a several hour wait at least.) It was all gaudy and overdone too. They had gay ass straight actors in costume trying to entertain and interact with New Yorkers at one in the morning. This is something no New Yorker does, even New York fire mages… hell, not even New York Night Elves. We avoid.

Music was blaring. Some Blizzard staff, I dare say perhaps programmers, were autographing copies of the game: a process shown to the thousand people wanting the game outside via several large plasma screens. A joyful shopping experience happening inside the store, shown to those like me outside the store when it had started to rain. Luckily, within a few minutes, the woman in front of me let me know I had to have prepurchased the game (or better yet, a purchase wristband earlier for the purchase of the game a midnight) at that store to belong in the massive horde (heh) of people. Side note: Her husband was a name-dropper, quite annoying.

I said luckily she mentioned that to me because I had remembered that on the way up in the cab, I passed a GameStop just south of Macy’s at 12:15 or so, and the line was only one person wide for just a block from 33rd to 34th. I should of just stopped there in the first place… I guess I wanted to know the horror that was Best Buy @ 44th. I started jogging back over to the GameStop when a friend called who was also in the 44th crowd looking for a better solution to buying it. I had a cigarette waiting for him to meet up, and we finished the quick jaunt to GameStop when they were literally shutting the door to lock it, but took no time in waving us in quickly to be the last two people that bought the expansion pack at that store… at about 12:40 in the AM… just after leaving the mob at Best Buy, less than a ten minute walk away.

I’m a level seventy-and-a-half, troll mage… a fire mage… sometimes even I can’t believe it. I do, however, understand that the actions–our choices–are stronger than our self-assumptions.

I thought I wasn’t so big of a geek that I would spend over an hour running around Midtown Manhattan at midnight for the Wrath of the Lich King… actually rushing to a Best Buy at 11:30 last night trying to buy the new World of Warcraft expansion pack. Only to discover that the launch had been moved to the Best Buy at 44th and 5th–a poorly printed memo taped to the door of my original choice–their 23rd street location–fobbed the grim news that only that singe Midtown location would be selling the game. Fucking invalids.

The lazily conceived note was contrary to Best Buy’s website boasting about several Manhattan locations that would be having midnight sales of the game. Best Buy is worthless. Worthless.

Just hold your finger on an image you like and BAM. The iPhone (or iPod touch) will ask if you want to save it to your camera roll…. from there… on to you wallpaper if you so choose.
